Visit Machu Picchu by Lares Trek
The beautiful Lares trek 4 days starts from Sacred Valley and takes an incredible route adorned by mountainous landscape, valley cloud-forest, glacier ponds, and genuine textile Quechua communities. It is a demanding trek that begins in Sacred Valley’s Huaran; and then enters a sharp climb to the secluded Cancha Cancha community. This is followed by passing through Quishuarani, viewing magnificent turquoise lakes along the way, moving on to Cuncani and then finally stopping at Lares where you can relax and enjoy the well-known and delightful hot thermal springs. From there you drive to Ollantaytambo to catch the train for Aguas Calientes, visit Machu Picchu on the fourth and final day of the trek.
Day1 - Lares Trek: Cusco to Canchacancha
You will be picked up from your hotel, private transport will take you on a 1.5-hour journey to Huaran village situated between Calca and Urubamba in the Sacred Valley. Huaran is the place where the Lares trek actually begins. Your horses will be prepared as they will accompany us from this point forward as we start our soft ascend along the small Cancha Cancha River. Day 1 will have you walking for roughly 5 hours and a climb to a hill in the valley, with lush plant life, to reach the 1st campsite in Cancha Cancha (12464ft) which is a little farming community in the midst of brilliant mountainous scenery. As we make camp you can familiarize yourself with the locals and their way of life.

Day2 - Lares Trek: Canchacancha to Queuñaqocha Lagoon
Once we’re done with the 2nd day’s breakfast the Lares Trek begins, leaving Cancha Cancha behind as we head northeast in the valley, seeing some small thatched stone houses along the way. After half an hour we see ourselves following a flat trail. After this, we begin our 2.5-hour long steep climb to the Pachacuteq Pass (13776ft). This is the first pass of the trek and provides terrific views of snow-capped Pitusiray and Pachacuteq Lake. After moving on for an hour over a narrow ridge we come across a splendid valley with exotic birds and glacial lakes. You might also observe the snowy peaks of Colquecruz, Minas, Sirijuani and other mountains. After having lunch at the pass we begin climbing down towards a delightful little textile community known as Quiswarani (12136ft). From there we head for our campsite in the beautiful Queuñaqocha lagoon where we will end Day 2.

Day3 - Lares Trek: Queuñaqocha Lagoon to Aguas Calientes
The Lares Trek continues on the 3rd day after breakfast. We make for Abra Hillkiccasa (13448ft), the second mountain pass. From here you can enjoy spectacular views on either side. The majestic Colquecruz and Pitusiray mountains are a special treat to watch from the pass. We continue the trek through the Puna grasslands, agricultural sites, and lakes. After 3 hours we reach Cuncani, a small peasant community. From Cuncani we head down through a lush valley with even more agricultural areas, seeing lovely native flowers like begonias and wild orchids. We reach our destination, Lares town (10168ft), after a 2-hour walk. This is the district (also called Lares) capital, adorned by delightful hot springs where you can take a dip. Once we lunching in Lares we will take our private transport to Ollantaytambo from where we catch the train to Aguas Calientes, where we will check-in at our hotel/hostel.

Day4 - Machu Picchu Tour – Back to Cusco
Excursion to Machu Picchu from Aguas Calientes, short ride (25 minutes) up to the citadel of Machu Picchu.
Upon arrival, and you will participate in a guided tour, visiting the Main Plaza, the Circular Tower, the most important preserved Intihuatana, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows.
Optional climb to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain: from where you can appreciate the immensity of Machu Picchu, even more, amazing being high and distant (not included in the price): In the afternoon you will take the bus down to Aguas Calientes for the train ride to Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival assistance at the station and transport to your Cusco hotel.
